The response from Thomas Hawk and Co

I was sick of the non-responses from Flickr over many many things that have done in the recent past. The latest being the censorship of various countries. One thing that did keep coming up was Thomas Hawk and the photo sharing Zooomr so I decided to check it out.I have documented my issues with Zooomr here, so what is the response from TH and his cohort with regards to medocumenting all of the problems I have been having? See this screenshot.Shame on you Thomas Hawk, no matter what I called Stewart and the Flickr staff, no matter how critical of them they did not disable my account.Update: (23 June 2007) The response from TH indicated that I had not activated the account. The error message did not say that. I did not get the activation message and the FAQ is in the Learn More link. I did not think to look there as I did not really want to learn more about the features of Zoomr, I just wanted help.Update2: (23rd June 2007) The penny dropped when I read the entire message from TH. I was having issues with using IE7 to register with Zooomr so I got the wife at home to register for me. She entered the wrong e-mail address so I never got the activation message.... bloody computer illiterate women. That aside the site still does not take into account the human error factor of idiot users such as myself :) The response from Thomas Hawk and Co

.steve.t .steve.t I only looked at zooomr, but couldn't be bothered signing up. Looking at this I'm glad I didn't. I've moved to Ipernity because it looks interesting, and has some extras. I've been thinking about this for months, but the moment crystalised when they combined filters with restricting access according to national origin. rant. The free ranging days of an open internet may be doomed, but a plague on Yahoo's house for actively building the manacles. Large companies spend vast sums lobbying governments so don't say you can't have any influence for good. endrant. Posted: June 22 2007
Thomas Hawk Thomas Hawk tuxcomputers. I just sent you an email on this. We did not disable your account. You never activated it. I have personally activated it for you and you should be able to get in now. More details in my email message. Thanks for using Zooomr. Tom Posted: June 22 2007
tuxcomputers tuxcomputers The site leaves alot to be desired in regards to the human element. It asks for the email address on the login yet you enter your username. It has no way to recover your password, the question about not getting the activation message is in the "Learn more". Even the error message I show above does not inform me that it was a "non-activation" problem just the account was "disabled". There is a difference between the issues but they don't make the distinction and you can see why I reacted they way I did. Posted: June 22 2007
vfm4 vfm4 i can't upload photos to zooomr with linux, so that's it, www.ipernity.com is all that's left but i think i could do worse... :-) Posted: June 23 2007
Thomas Hawk Thomas Hawk tuxcomputers. We just changed the page the error page to read: "This account has not yet been activated or has been disabled by an administrator. Please contact support for assistance." Thanks for pointing this out. Apologize for the misunderstanding on our part. Feel free to contact me at tom@thomashawk.com with any issues. I'm not really hanging out much at Flickr anymore so I'm going to miss most of the Zooomr stuff that gets posted on here. Posted: June 23 2007

I just had a brain wave and realised that what I have written here is wrong. I tried with the stuffed up e-mail address my wife registered and I was able to get in. @Thomas Hawk: You are not entirely to blame, my wife is partly to blame too.....now I just have to make sure she never ever reads this. monkeyc.net monkeyc.net Im considering it as well, Flickr has carried on in some ways Im not a huge fan of since the yahoo purchase. Posted: June 24 2007
DavidMXG DavidMXG Do we know that ipernity allows the kind of images which are now censored by flickr for Germans? I certainly have no clear evidence. There are no erections on ipernity when searching for "erection" as a tag, but plenty on flickr. Or do you have to be registered at ipernity to find the spurting cocks? I am just using the erections as a guide line for what is allowed. Until these issues of censorship arrived I had never seen an erection on flickr. - A new way of the use of the term guide line. Zooomr is still under development. You cannot expect perfection at this stage. There are still no picture pools - only discussion. The issue that counts is what zooomr will hold in some years time. And that involves waiting. Presently the range of creative photos in zooomr is nothing like flickr & since pools are lacking it is difficult to find it. I have started an account at zooomr & uploaded a few pics. But it is a matter of awaiting developments before I say I have moved & this will take months if not years. Posted: June 25 2007

I don't expect perfection, I do expect BASIC features such as: 1. A recover password utility. 2. A contacts page. 3. Clear error messages. 4. The ability to correct or change your e-mail address in your profile. 5. That the site had been tested using IE7 with an account that does not have admin privileges. Actually tested with IE6 as well as Firefox on both Windows and Linux. People are idiots (me included) that will do the wrong thing (by accident as well as on purpose) it should be the first thing you take into account when you design your system, Zooomr does not. DavidMXG DavidMXG tuxcomputers. While these beta software issues can make life a bit difficult, they do not stop one using zooomr. My pictures there are being viewed. The thing I would like to have as soon as possible is pools, as these help a lot in looking around the site. I think zooomr is going in a useful direction. bobrafto. I have taken up the erection issue on FlickrCentral (Uncensored) at www.flickr.com/groups/fcu/discuss/72157600616878609/72157... Posted: July 03 2007
tuxcomputers tuxcomputers @DavidMXG: I have tried Zooomr and it is not a site worth visiting let alone using. Kristopher maybe a great programmer but he is the worst designer I have ever encountered. Zooomr is not beta, it is no where near a beta, at best it is pre-alpha. A bunch of features thrown together with no thought does not a design make. How about a bet? I will create a group called "The DavidMXG appreciation group" and I will pay for your pro account if you can find it within 3 days, if you can't, you agree you will pay for my pro account on Iperinty. Up for it? I think the design of the groups on Zooomr is so pathetic you know you will lose. Posted: July 03 2007
DavidMXG DavidMXG tuxcomputers No bets, I've no spare money. I agree zooomr needs more programming. Only some groups list out, as threads. My intention is to stick with zooomr somewhat in parallel with flickr & maybe another photo site. See: beta.zooomr.com/groups/help/discuss/ This shows recent additions - a lot of groups may be found from here. Global discussions can help: beta.zooomr.com/groups/ The way around finding the groups is when anyone adds a group to add it to the list in beta.zooomr.com/groups/epicenter/discuss/162/ Look at this thread to find the groups. To get there the long way click on: Groups which leads to -- www.flickr.com/groups/ Click on: go to the epicenter --- beta.zooomr.com/groups/epicenter/ look at the group--- The Groups on Zooomr List: ADD YOUR GROUP HERE: ---- beta.zooomr.com/groups/epicenter/discuss/162/ This give a list of groups. Anyone adding a group should add theirs here. Its work in progress, I know. Posted: July 04 2007
tuxcomputers tuxcomputers So what you are saying is that clicking on the "Groups" does not take you to a list of the groups. If I wanted a list of threads from Global groups then I would click on a link that said "Threads from Global groups" Did Krisopher take any design lessons at all? Here’s how things are normally designed: Step 1. Design the ability for users to create / set variables. Step 2. Design a facility so that the user can change the variables. Step 3. Design a function so that other users can search on the variables. Step 4. Sit down at keyboard. In my mind Kristopher just sat down at the keyboard and started banging away. The site is a mess, there is no organisation what so ever. Even the thread listing in the groups is not in any order that I can recognise, can you? Posted: July 04 2007
Rippie: Contra Censura! Rippie: Contra Censura! zooomr is so bogus right now. there is no way to recover your login info, so i had to abandon my last account, which had only an avatar, only to find that now, Beta won't even let you create a frickin avatar. i will not post without an avatar anywhere, so... so far, zooomr is doodoomr. hawk has not replied to me in threads where i've asked him about fixing my (now two) accounts. grr. ⓅⒶⓎⓅⒶⓊⓁ ⓅⒶⓎⓅⒶⓊⓁ I just took a bit of a look at Ipernity. Yes it has Bambi And Buttcheeks. Oh boy this is a bit too open ended for me. Bambi and Buttcheeks on the Tour page? Their TOS gives them all sorts of ways out of legal wrangles. Post at your own risk. I guess it's all good so long as no one complains. I'm in no way shape or form approving of censorship. Discretion and common sense should rule the day. I also took a peek at Zooomr. Be careful! Make sure you put 3(Three)(treis)(trey)(III) "o"'s, "Oh"s, OOOO's in the URL otherwise there is a commercial site with 2 o's in it. Why couldn't they get the rights to the one with 2 "o"s as well. Spoooooked me out. I'll give Zooomr a waitawhile. I don't like its "CENSORSHIP" of non-photos. You can't fool me Thomas Hawk. What is exactly meant even by "Digital Photos"? Any photoshopped, Photofiltred or otherwise modified image will be deleted? They are very specific about their "bugs" on the site however and that I give them credit for yet since the uploader doesn't work too well with Firefox that puts me at a disadvantage. I wouldn't touch IE anything with with a ten foot mouse pointer. Nope zooomer is NOT for me. Posted: July 28 2007
